Personalized gifts are almost always a good choice. A diaper cake can be a solution if you want to give a different gift. This type of gift is becoming more and more popular. Try to personalize the gifts for the little ones! Besides the fact that it will be a lot of fun to make, it will be a special gift for a baby or for a future mother.
I waited with emotion for the first diaper cake I created to reach the destination, before I published this article. I was glad it was a pleasant surprise so maybe it’s a good idea for you too. I kept hearing about diaper cakes but I wasn’t too interested in the idea until recently, when another baby was born in our family. I remembered that while I were working, customers frequently asked about this type of cake. I researched a bit about how to make it and I ran to the shops to look for objects that fit together and are somewhat useful to the baby. I didn’t find exactly what I imagined, but I reoriented myself and rethought the overall image based on the elements found.
What a diaper cake should contain:
Cakes of this kind can be made in neutral colors, suitable for both girls and boys. Diaper cakes can also be made for twins with two different halves, one half for each of the babies. I think that such a cake would be very fun to make, maybe I will have the opportunity, who knows !?
There is no rule on what items such a cake should contain, but I would suggest choosing a theme based on the baby’s gender (if known) and then combining items that you think fit.
Diaper cake 1:
The marine theme chosen for this diaper cake can be found in the accessories I decorated it with.
- 80 pieces Huggies diapers no. 2 – for the base of the cake I used 59 diapers, for the next step 17, and on the last step 4.
- cardboard for base and center – I cut a cardboard circle (diameter 38 cm) and in its center I fixed a cylinder also made of cardboard with a height of 36 cm.
- thread – I rolled the diapers and tied them together starting from the center to the outside, I did the same for each step.
- wrapping paper – I wrapped the support circle on both sides with paper to cover the cardboard then I cut strips of paper to cover each floor of the cake.
- ribbon, colored adhesive, tape, sticker letters, accessories (frame, toy, box, slippers, etc.) – you can choose whatever you want
Meanwhile, another baby came to our family, I took the opportunity and made another diaper cake, this time in the form of a boat.
Diaper cake 2:
For this diaper cake, the chosen theme is Mikey Mouse.
- 80 pieces Huggies diapers no. 2 -for the base of the cake I used 64 diapers and for the next step 12.
- cardboard for base and center – I cut a cardboard in the shape of a boat and in its center I fixed a cylinder also made of cardboard with a height of 24 cm.
- thread – I rolled the diapers and tied them together starting from the center to the outside, I did the same for each step.
- gift wrap with the desired theme or color, with which we wrapped the base and the floors of the cake.
- ribbon, colored adhesive tape, accessories (toy, body box, baby hygiene kit, flag, etc.) – as I said before, you can choose whatever you want
These are just 2 variants of cake created with diapers, but they can be made in any other shape: stroller, princess, car, locomotive, flying balloon or any other idea goes through your head. These types of gifts are good to give to congratulate a future mother or to welcome a newborn. Diaper cakes are offered along with other gifts at Baptism parties.
As another baby will be with us soon, I will be back with a third model!
